Artist Bio:
Hello, my name is Dode Page and I live in Morrisville, NY with my husband Charlie. I’m a stepmom, mother-in-law, Grandma and a great Grandma. I am the owner of Black Cat Antiques and Gifts which is right next door, and I have been in business 22 years.
In 2017 I saw a primitive Santa in my favorite magazine and thought I’d try making one, it was a challenge. I made a pattern and sewed it together by hand. It looked nothing like the Santa in the magazine, but it looked OK, so I made a few more and sold all of them! After that I’ve taught myself how to create my own designs and patterns, it was a challenge for someone who has never made anything like this ever! Now I sell my primitive folk art dolls, sunflowers and more in my shop and have sold to people from California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Canada and all-over upstate New York.
I love being next door to the Earlville Opera House. Through the years I’ve learned to appreciate different forms of art. I never dreamed I’d be a Primitive Folk Artist displaying my work in an art gallery at the Earlville Opera House, but here I am.
Halloween is my favorite holiday and is my favorite time of year. They are my inspiration for this exhibit. I like to work with wool material, craft felt, yarn, twine, vintage and new buttons, rusty things and what ever I can find to create my pieces. My studio is a comfortable chair in my shop where I relax and have been creating my primitive Folk Art with a touch of whimsy! I hope you enjoy my art exhibit as much as enjoyed creating it.
Have a happy Halloween!!
